VISCRI VILLAGE

King Charles of England, who came to Romania for the first time in 1998, fell in love with Transylvania at first sight. Since that day, he has made it his mission to protect the village life and nature of Transylvania. One of the places he got his hands on in Viscri Village.

One of the things it does for this is to ensure that both traditional life and nature are protected by making these places a focus of agritourism (tourism about village life) and ecotourism.

The king made his first move by buying houses in the fairy-tale villages of Viscri and Zalanpatak. After restoring the houses, he started to operate as a guest house. He also spends a few days here every year. The package price of being a guest at King Charles' home, including meals, is £122 per day. You can find the video at the bottom of the article.

King Charles is the first noble in the history of the village. According to documents from the 1400s, there were 51 households, 3 shepherds, 1 teacher and 2 homeless in the village. Another house of the king is in Zalanpatak Village. The facility here includes several houses, flower meadows, and a stream running through it. An ecologist who serves the guests lives in the facility, which is in a very important place in terms of biodiversity. They organize ecology-oriented tours such as bear tracking on horseback, botany and mushroom picking.

By the way, King Charles also has blood ties to Transylvania. And a very interesting bloodline: The king is descended from the famous vampire Dracula! You can read the story here: Dracula Is A Real Person

Viscri Village is one of the Saxon villages that has remained intact since the Middle Ages. Now there are only 16 Germans living here. The main element that makes the village famous is its church dated 1185, which is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. The church was a small chapel when the Saxons arrived. It turned into a romanesque church with some additions made until the 16th century. In the 17th century, its walls were strengthened and took its present form. If you wish, you can visit this village with tours from Braşov. Click here to buy tickets for the half-day tour of Sighişoara, which also includes Viscri Village.

We went to see Bur Ortacağ village, which is included in the World Cultural Heritage list by UNESCO, and its famous church surrounded by walls.

Losing our way, we finally arrived at the church, bouncing around like a watermelon in a truck bed on the bumpy roads.

When we got to the door, we saw the Father's note. He went early today according to his mind, and he wouldn't open in the afternoon. He did not give a reason, this is how it is today… 🙂
